Without wanting to be presumptuous – it looks like summer may have finally arrived! Fresh from the bank holiday weekend with the warmer temperatures heading our way, you may feel more like getting out and about after a winter of lockdown and restrictions. The sunshine may even inspire you to introduce a bit of exercising in the park into your daily routine now that brighter mornings and evenings are here. And you can do this without having to spend a fortune on gym memberships and classes. At No.1 Millbrook Park our residents are fortunate to have Panoramic Park on their doorstep – plenty of open grassed space as well as a natural jogging track around the border. It’s the perfect place to start getting active – and not too far away so you can roll straight out of bed and into the park (or back up to your comfy sofa!).
We’ve put together some ideas to get you started with some gentle exercises using just the resources on offer at the park.
Walk / Jog / Run
The path around Panoramic Park is the perfect track for laps. You can time your first walk, jog or run and then see if you can gradually improve!
Using the benches
There are plenty of benches around the park – perfect for a whole range of exercises to improve core fitness and muscle exercises such as bench jumps, push-ups, tricep dips and decline push-ups if you’re feeling adventurous!
Using the steps
Running and jumping up and down the stairs is another great cardio workout as well as toning those leg muscles.
Using the trees
Trees (or even one of the lamposts) are great for practising your wall sits (with your back against a big tree, placing your legs into a 90-degree angle and holding for 1 minute).
Using the open space
The options are endless for making use of the wide-open space at Panoramic Park – you can practice yoga, pilates, star jump until your heart’s content. It’s also perfect for a small group to gather and do an outside class together!
Feeling inspired to do some exercising in the park? Now all that’s left to do is grab some comfortable clothes and trainers and give it a go! We love this workout from Coach Mag which offers some more great ideas about park workouts, depending on the level of intensity you want.
