Spring is finally here, and along with the gradual easing of Lockdown now underway, we’re ready to get out and about again. Long walks, picnics, meeting with friends and relaxing in the park are all something we’ve been looking forward to. Living in Mill Hill East, you really are spoilt for choice as to where you might head out for such activities. You may only be just over 20 minutes from the hustle and bustle of the City but when you hit these beautiful lush green spaces you’ll feel a million miles away.
We’ve done a round-up of ten local spots you may want to add to your list when you want to make the most of your precious free time and enjoy beautiful outdoor space.
One – Panoramic Park
30-second walk from No.1 Millbrook Park
Right on the doorstep of No.1 Millbrook Park is Panoramic Park which provides the perfect place for a morning jog with its convenient circuit like path. With some outdoor exercise equipment as well as a children’s playground too there is a little something for everyone to enjoy.
Two – Scratchwood
Barnet Way (A1 Northbound) – 14-minute drive from No.1 Millbrook Park
57 acres of beautiful woodland awaits you for your Sunday stroll. Scratchwood is the remains of the once extensive Middlesex Forest with some parts of the ancient woodland dating back over 11,500 years! Filled with sessile oaks trees, birch, hawthorns and sycamores, the area has been called the Borough’s best woodland in terms of floral diversity, especially of ancient woodland indicator species.
Three – Moat Mount Open Space
Barnet Way (A1 Southbound) – 13-minute drive from No.1 Millbrook Park
A 110-hectare park and nature reserve which neighbours Scratchwood. It’s a large open space with amazing views from the top, worth the climb to the top. A lot of grass, wildflowers, ponds and smaller woods to explore and enjoy.
Four – Arrandene Open Space
Wise Lane – 25-minute walk from No.1 Millbrook Park
A great example of an old London hay meadow. Wildflowers grow in abundance during the summer with the surrounding woods and scrub a perfect habitat for local birds.
Five – Totteridge Fields
Hendon Wood Lane – 8-minute drive from No.1 Millbrook Park
A great space for a walk with 7-acres of well preserved open fields. You may well spot the odd grazing cattle but don’t forget to look up as well where you may spot a kestrel flying overhead.
Six – Belmont Children’s Farm
The Ridgeway – 5-minute drive from No.1 Millbrook Park
If you fancy something a little different, why not take a wander around this quaint little farm on your doorstep.
Seven – Upper Dollis Brook
Dollis Road – 15-minute walk from No.1 Millbrook Park
This section of the brook, which is a tributary from the River Brent, is between Mill Hill and Woodside Park and also includes neighbouring open spaces. Perfect for a shady riverside stroll, taking in the bubbling brooks and spotting river loving birds such as kingfishers and moorhens.
Eight – Mill Hill Park
Daws Lane – 8-minute drive from No.1 Millbrook Park
A large public park which is one of the premier parks in the Borough, it’s even been given a Green Flag Award. Here you’ll find tons of recreational activities on offer including cricket and football pitch, tennis and basketball courts, playgrounds, cafe alongside 35 acres of vast outdoor space.
Nine – Bittacy Hill Park
Sanders Lane – 11-minute walk from No.1 Millbrook Park
A small hilly park with gardens, a multi-sports court and children’s play areas. A perfect spot if you don’t want to wander too far from home to enjoy some local outdoor space.
Ten – Riverside Park
Fursby Avenue – 20-minute walk from No.1 Millbrook Park
A picturesque riverside setting with playgrounds, woodland and multisport courts – a little something for everyone.
